It was good to see you all at the this months club night, with 26 members and three guests attending. Not such a good turn out for the pre meeting ride, perhaps the weather forecast put you off! Four of us left the Alma promptly at 7 ,but unfortunately a breakdown meant that only three returned. The fourth was picked up eventually and arrived home about 10pm. And no ,it wasn't due to lack of petrol. Various rides were mentioned for future months, and volunteers for May rides would be welcome as I dont have much spare time in the next few weeks. I will be doing a recce of the NC500 with a view to having a go on a bike next year,if anyone fancies it. Dont forget the VMCC invite to take part in their rides from The Langford Museum of Power on the weekend 12th to 14th of April. Not a section event but you will be made very welcome. The next lunch meeting should be on April 26th but keep an eye out for details. The next club night is May 1st. There will be a ride before the meeting. Gordon
Just a quick reminder that its club night next Wednesday 3rd April, and that the first pre meeting ride will leave the Alma at 7pm sharp. No petrol stops! Our ride to Pin Mill on the 14th was cancelled because of the wet and windy weather, and we tried again on the 26th and six of us enjoyed a lovely ride in the sunshine, despite road closures and road works. The lunch meet on Mersea was well attended on the 29th, (not such a significant day after all), but the promised bargains were a bit thin on the ground, probably due to the affluence of the locals! Gordon
There will be a visit to Burnham Railway Museum on Sunday April 7th, leaving the Alma at 10am. John Walsh is in charge. It is a good day out, and you can go by car! More details at the next clubnight. Gordon
The Lunch Meeting was our first for March at The Saracens Head, Newton Green and ten of us had a nice lunch and a look at Jim Lomax's very nice AJS.
Good to see you all at the Club Night. So much to talk about! There was some discussion about events in the pipeline, as well as the ride this month on the 14th to Pin Mill. With promises of trips to the Railway Museum to be announced as well as Andrews Field, Mersea Myths / fish and chips, and Littley Green, there should be plenty riding coming up.
I hope to start the pre Club Night rides in April, just a short ride to get the bikes warmed up before the serious stuff. The dates for some future events have been decided and details can be found on the events page. And dont forget the off roaders have been quite active already this year,so contact Steve if you want to join in. And the first Pre 65 scramble at Marks Tey is on March 17th. The next lunch meeting is on Friday 29th March at Waldegraves West Mersea. And the next club night is april 3rd, with the pre meeting ride starting promptly at 7pm, with no petrol stops! See you there Gordon
Our second daytime ride of the year took place on a very lovely day, 26th of February. Ten riders left the Alma, ably led by John Swan and despite an unexpected “road closed” arrived at Landguard Point in good time for lunch. They were met by two others who had travelled independantly and by myself and Julia, coming by car. After a lovely lunch, we presented John with a special trophy for his efforts for trying to locate a 17mm socket in our favourite scrap yard last year!
Our next lunch meeting is on Friday the !st March at Newton Green, The Saracens Head. This is an experiment to catch some of the special offers not available at weekends. The next club night is March 6th, and we shall be discussing the coming months rides as well as events later in the year. See you there .Gordon
Sorry I missed the club night, but I understand Colin did an excellent job without me. I'm afraid I also missed the Section Notes deadline for the magazine, no great lost but useful for new members to see what we get up to!
Pleased to see several volunteers for rides and visits for the coming year and I thank you all for your efforts - railway museums, airfields and many more.
There was another record turnout with thirty members, two guests and four apologies. Lets hope we see more of you riding with us during the year. The Pre 65 event in June is now a section event so we shall need some help and support for that.
There has been some discussion about a visit to the Sammy Miller Museum and we have just spotted that The Jampot Rally in 2019 is in Hampshire, just an hour away from the museum. We could combine a visit to the Rally and the museum with an overnight stay. The Jampot Rally is on August 23rd-26th at Horndean, Hampshire. If you are interested let us know at the next club night. Camping at the Rally is not compulsory, there are hotels nearby, and, dare I say, you could make the trip by car! Gordon
One of the suggested visit is a railway museum to the south of Essex. John Walsh has asked to let him know at the next club night if you would like to go, so he can get an idea of numbers. Gordon
It was good to have a nice day for our first ride of the year. Six of us headed off to the Suffolk countryside from the Alma, and we picked up another at Sproughton. With two others joining us at the Victoria, a total of nine was a good turnout. After a nice lunch, we made our way back to Colchester, by a similar route, dropping off one or two at various points along the way. A good start to the year.
As you will have seen from Colins e-mails, our intrepid group of off-roaders have also had a good start to the year, ably led by Steve. All we have to do is keep it all going.
We have had a few ideas for rides and visits this year,so if you have somewhere you think is worth a visit , please bring details to the next club night. One of the suggestions is a combined visit to The Sammy Miller Museum and Beaulieu with an overnight stay. It's a three and a half hours drive down there. If you are interested please let us know. It would be a summer event, outside school holidays! Finally did you spot the deliberate mistake in the last update? Senior moment.See you soon Gordon
