As reported we had a good turnout for our August club night, and nineteen of us visited the very impressive Merlin Project. I led a run to the Jampot Rally at Rushden, meeting with Chris mac at Kimbolton and with four club stalwarts doing the whole weekend at Rushden Rugby Club. I visited my daughter who lives nearby. Six of us ventured into Suffolk and we visited Cake Street Classics and some lovely BSA Rocket Gold Stars, and then onto Lowestoft and Crown Street Motors for a bit of nostalgia witha previous owner of my old Rocket.
I stayed on to meet up with my old ridng mates and returned the next day. John Swann kindly led the rest back home after lunch at Wrentham. Good trip!
Phil and I accompanied John Swann to a club bike meeting at Snetterton, with a lovely ride in both directions and good weather all day. And very quick those boys (and girls) were. I had not seen F1 sidecars before, normally you see 600cc F2 at the TT etc, but the F1 have the engine behind the driver and its 1000cc. There were a couple of girls racing one and they were really going. The championship leader gave us a good look round his outfit and the engineering is amazing.
The next day I had tickets for the Moto Gp at Silverstone. We decided to stay at home, and the least said about it the better! Julian once again led us on a lovely ride into the depths of Essex finishing up at the Prince of Wales near Stow Maries.
The month ended with the Lunch meeting at The Hare and Hounds, Leavenheath and the reports were very good.
There were a couple of Pre 65 scramble events in August at Gosfield and Maylandsea, the former requiring the air ambulance, the second very wet , with none of ours riding.
This month's club night was well supported, ten of us going on the final pre meeting ride for this year, and some 24 present at the meeting.
We will be riding out to Parkeston to pay a visit to Vic and the local fish and chip shop on the 20th, leaving the Alma at 6-30 under John Swans guidance. And we should be paying Bernie a visit in Norolk and visiting the nearby Motor Cycle Museum, at a date tha suits him. It will be an early start from the Alma to get the most time in Norfolk.
The Lunch meeting will be on Saturday 29th, venue yet to be decided. There is the Air Ambulance ride to Harwich on the 9th and a pre 65 scramble at Maylandsea on the 16th. I hope to see you at some of those.
