Despite worries about road closures, we made it to the Hadleigh club BBQ thanks to Steve's efforts and seventeen members and six guests, enjoyed an excellent event on a lovely evening. We managed to get nine bikes and four guests in support of Chick Wickhams cancer charity event. We all enjoyed excellent local Tiptree jam and strawberries. We also recieved a piece of decorated plywood for parking the bikes which was far too good for purpose! Chick kindly offered a test track for the Scramblers, and both Vic and Julian did some valuable testing and as a result finished in all their events at Marks Tey.
There was another good turnout for the clubnight on the 4th of July. Julian led eleven bikes on a most interesting local ride, and we used the drop off system without a glitch. There were over twenty bikes in the car park and we also signed up two new members. It's very encouraging that we are attracting new members and good numbers for the rides.
Colin reported on the apologies and the June events, and the e-mail count. He is in contact with Joan Reeve and we hope to take her out for lunch in the next few weeks. The BMF insurance has been paid for from the John Lay windfall, and the donations towards next years already stands at £40, all contributions welcome!
Paul is willing to order more T shirts etc as long as the minimum numbers can be met. Kevin has more circular club badges if you need one.
Forthcoming rides were discussed and Steve is looking into the Merlin visit, Bernie will give us some dates for a vist to Norfolk and we hope to get Kevin to let us know about another visit to Duxford. John Swann kindly agreed to take a day time ride on July 11th starting at the Alma at 10-30, venue a mystery, and Phill offered to take us to the annual meeting with the Suffolk section on July 25th at Manningtree Station, leaving the Alma at 7pm.
We usually have a presence at the Maldon Club BBQ which is on July 12th and Steve will be leading from the Alma at 7-15. Looking a bit further ahead, the Jampot Rally is on from August 17th until 19th, and Colin and I will be riding there on the Saturday 18th,as day visitors. Its about 2 hours from Colchester to Rushden, so if any of you fancy coming, let us know - probably an early start! Finally John Swan and I have attended the odd motorcycle Race event at Snetterton and there is a meeting coming up in August which we might attend. Keep an eye on the events page! Dont forget the “June” lunch meeting is this Saturday, July 7th at The Ship, Tiptree.
