Alma Pub sign

Once again we had a very good turnout for our July club night at the Alma and nine of us had a nice ride around the local Essex countryside for about an hour before the meeting. We were lucky enough with the weather to conduct our meeting in the garden outside, and Colin and I did our best to keep you all up to date with the club business.

We had a very active riding programme for June, starting with John Swans trip into the depths of Norfolk, and once again after a nice lunch by the green in Diss, we ventured into the wonderful scrapyard hidden away in an housing estate , just down the road. This has to be seen and there is so much stuff there is bound to be something there that you need!

We also made the trip to meet the East London section at stapleford airfield, and Vic kindly led us into what was unknown territory for me. We tried the drop off system properly for the first time and while it produced a bit of discussion afterwards ,i think it was useful and I think we will have to use a slightly refined version if we get numbers of ten or more on a ride. Thirteen of us made it over there and we didn't lose anyone on the way, but going home wasn't quite so well organised.

Paul led a run to the fish and chip shop in Sudbury and while the numbers were a bit down,I missed it I'm afraid, i gather it was a good evening and the food was up to scratch..I must go next year.

Several of us attended the Hadleigh club BBQ at The Queens Head Lower Layham, and once again we had a lovely evening and the food was expertly prepared by the landlord. I missed the ride but I understand there was the chance of a bit of off roading available for those who felt the need. We get invited every year and with several of us in both clubs its good to support these events.

One or two of us joined a ride with Jim Lomax with the Hadleigh club one evening as well. Incidentally Jim has rejoined our section. After a flirtation with the suffolks he's seen the light and returned.

The Lunch meeting at the Ship, Tiptree proved popular once more, and its good to see they are extending the car park, such is their popularity with local people.

We were invited to the annual show at Clare. Now as you know one or two of our members are from these parts and i understand that it is well worth attending. I missed it I'm afraid but I will make the effort next year as I understand it was a very goods day out.

I hope to see you at some of the events we have arranged during July and of course at the club night on August 2nd. Gordon
