RIDE OUT - Rules of the Road
With being a reasonably sized club, our ride outs have regularly included up to 17 bikes, which is a feat of organisation. Below are the guidelines we should follow to ensure we all have an enjoyable and safe ride.
1. Turn up with a tank-full of petrol.
2. Leader is to adhere to the speed limits as followers may have difficulty keeping up and no one wants a speeding ticket.
3. Keep the rider in front in view.
4. Keep the following rider in view – occasionally look in your mirror.
5. Leader to avoid major roads where possible. A long line of slower moving classic motorcycles can cause frustration to other drivers.
6. When at traffic lights or round-abouts double-up (side-by-side) with the rider in front as this takes up less space and will speed up the group getting through.
7. Use the drop of system at junctions. The person behind the Leader to find a safe place to stop that indicates the direction to follow, but don’t put yourself in harm’s way.
8. If on the return journey, anyone who will peel off in a different direction to go home, please let Ride Leader know so the group can be advised. This will save riders following the wrong leader and wonder if we have lost a rider.
9. If the Leader stops for any reason find a safe place to stop (before or after the Leader) or keep in single file to ensure we aren’t blocking the road.
10. Take note and instruction from Tail-End-Charlie, he will always be the last member of the ride out. He will slow down for you to pull out in front of him, do so safely, being aware of other road users.
