Several of us attended the Alma Classic Car and Bike show on May 25th, in a show of support for Derek, the landlord who looks after us very well all the year round. It coincided with his beer festival as well and one or two of us enjoyed some fine food and beer among a lovely collection of cars and bikes. The weather was good and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day. Star bike had to be the totally unrestored Triumph Tiger 100, sadly not a club member.

The following Tuesday was our annual get together with the East Suffolk Section and again we had glorious weather and a good turnout of bikes including one or two very unusual machines belonging to our members. I’m not sure we outnumbered them this time but it was a lovely evening and it was good to watch Julian’s son Jake, doing his bit of work experience Abellio Greater Anglia Railways. It looked to me he was enjoying it far too much!

We ventured out to Pentlow, near Sudbury for our lunch meeting and twelve of us enjoyed a nice meal out in the sticks. Very friendly and maybe should be included in a ride out one evening.

Sadly, on June 2nd, several of us attended the funeral of Alf Salmon, a colourful character, who lead this section for several years. His relatives were pleased to see us and we attended the wake at the yew Tree Gt Horksely afterwards.

We had a short ride out on our next club night, June 3rd and some 13 members attended several being on holiday or otherwise engaged.  In the absence of any volunteers for the job, I presided over the meeting, held in the car park because of the exceptional weather, while Colin sunned himself in Bournemouth.

I am afraid I missed quite a lot of club activities in the rest of June as Le Mans and family matters took precedent.

Colin lead a run to the Granary Farm Museum, Blaxhall, which I have visited and would encourage anyone who is interested in anything post war to go. I gather the lunch halt wasn’t up to scratch so next time we will have to go elsewhere.

A run to the Mayflower Project at Harwich left everyone wondering if the multi million pound replica of the Mayflower, due to sail to America in 2020, the 400th anniversary of the original voyage, will be ready in time. This was one of John’s favourite projects and we will continue to support it.

I also missed the lunch meet at The Queen Victoria, Maldon.  Yet another excellent venue that Dot managed to find and I gather a good time was had by all.

We were invited to the Hadleigh Club BBQ on Monday 29th and I managed to get to this one, only to be thwarted by an inch and a quarter number six chipboard screw in the back wheel. As my fellow riders were keen to point out it was posidrive! They had a good time and got recovered home by the RAC at 9-45pm.

I hope to pay a visit with Colin to catch up with Russell at his home, later in the month. It would appear that he is on the mend which is excellent news.

Last night we had an invite to the Maldon Club BBQ and eight bikes and one in a car from of our section went along. Could the food be the attraction? Thanks to Phil for making a donation on our behalf.

It also clashed with a bike show at our CVCVC car club, and I am afraid three of us who have multi club membership went along, where Peter Twitchet won the pre 1969 class with his WD Matchless.

Looking ahead, I see we have a ride out scheduled for the 14th and I believe we are going to the Military Museum in Maldon, leaving the Alma at 10-30.

The Hadleigh club have an evening run on the 15th and we have an invite for that, and the Lunch meet is scheduled for august Ist at the Willows Inn, The Street Messing.

And then its club night on the 5th of august. Hope to see all of you there. Gordon
