It was good to see you all at New Times on the 29th of March. Child minding duties at Higham Ferrers forced me to miss several events including the last club night on the 2nd.

We did manage a run out on Friday 11th which centred around the Sudbury area and finished up at the Lamarsh Lion for lunch. We welcomed Tony and George, two of our club members taking part in a run for the first time. I believe they both enjoyed it! Colin’s run has now been rescheduled so keep an eye on the events list, and your e mail.

I needed a navigator for a car club event on the 13th as Julia was singing in London during the Marathon. Tony Reynolds volunteered and we had a very good day, only getting lost once when I was on familiar territory and missed a junction! Tony could do with some help sorting out a gearbox oil leak on his AJS.Any help most appreciated.

Moto GP continues to outshine Formula One, despite Lewis Hamilton’s success. It’s a pity that the BBC can send 280 people to the Football World Cup but can’t show Moto GP.Still ITV 4 is better than nothing. The American producers didn’t spend enough time watching the leaders, in my opinion.
Marquez is definitely an amazing talent.

I visited the Silverstone six hours WEC event, travelling by BMW on the Friday. I was hoping for some company but no one wanted the ride. The 428 from St Neots to Higham Ferrers is worth a visit. I joined the Silverstone Racing Club, which has its own parking, club house, and catering next to the old Woodcote corner and I may now be tempted to visit the Moto GP later this year. I heard a rumour that a CSR is well on the way to getting back on the road. Owned by a long standing member, I for one am looking forward to it. I understand that the Kawasaki I followed all the way to Lands End, and John O Groats has left the fold. I can confirm that it performs very well!

I missed the lunch at the Fox, West Mersea, on the 3rd of May, and some 7 members were present. The following club night was well attended with thirteen present and several like me missed it. I was on the way to the Spanish Grand Prix. Not the most exciting event I have been to. The intersection meet at Stebbing Airfield was not attended as well as it has been in the past but that may have been down to the weather forecast!

The open day at Stow Maries airfield had a disappointing turnout, (I was still away). I want to see it so perhaps another visit can be arranged.
Similarly, Chris Macs run to the Triumph Museum. I missed it and Chris finished up going with one other. They had a good day and called in at The Ace. Perhaps another outing can be arranged?

John, Colin and I went on Collins mystery run into Suffolk on the 16th. We visited the Granary Crafts Museum, Buxhall, and I can thoroughly recommend a visit. The museum holds the local community history as well as all sorts of things that some of you more elderly will recognise! And there is a small caravan site as well, all in the deepest countryside.

Some of us are attending the Alma Beer Festival with our bikes this coming bank holiday weekend, in support of the landlord and his show. He looks after us very well so it’s good to support him if we can.

Several of our members belong to the Hadleigh and District Classic Bike Club and they are holding a 30 years Anniversary Bike Show at the Guild Hall Hadleigh on August 17th. I know it’s a bit early but if you would like to exhibit your bike or just come along, contact me. There is a lot happening in the classic world as the summer approaches.

I hope to get to as many as I can and look forward to seeing you all.

Gordon
