I have been rather busy since the last update and I apologise now! The June club night was rather poorly attended, but the section lunch at The New Times, Tiptree was well received.
I was away at Le Mans in June. I had intended to go to watch the Banbury Run but family responsibilities ruled the day. We must go next year!

I made it to the July club night and we went for a short run around Essex before the meeting. I managed another trip to Le Mans, this time for the Le Mans Classic. One or two interesting bikes there as well. And we continued the trip down to Spain for a few days. We were supposed to be meeting the Suffolk section at Manningtree as we have done in the past, but Colin went along but the event was cancelled following a riding accident en route for a Suffolk member.

Five of the section attended the Maldon Clubs annual BBQ, a standing invitation for us. It was a shame it was a wet evening but was in Spain. It rained there too! There was a good attendance for the section lunch at the Bull, Tolleshunt Major and I was one of nine who attended. It’s just around the corner from Lanes Garage, who are keen motorcycle enthusiasts. The following Monday we visited the Hadleigh club BBQ and again it rained on the way home.

August was a bit quiet and the club night only had six of us in attendance, We did our annual pilgrimage to the Fish and Chip shop in Aldeburgh, leaving early so we got there in time to queue! I had visited the same establishment the previous lunchtime with some of our family on holiday but it wasn’t a chore to go back again!

As well as the club night in September, we managed a trip to Snetterton to watch some classic bike racing and we enjoyed a lovely day sitting in the sunshine, watching the racing, as well as meeting up with our friends from Lanes Garage, Cake street Classics, and section member Brian Camp with his Molnar Manx. A very good day, highlighted by our chairman’s collapsing chair! We also had a run out to the Flixton Air Museum. We shall have to go again. There is so much to see and of course there is the Commander Wallace wing.

Following the October club night, there was a second attempt to meet up with the Suffolk’s, but due to and admin problem!?? Only Chris Mac made it. John Walsh organised a lovely run for us around the Dengie peninsula, and we were all on classic bikes for a change. We enjoyed excellent pub lunch at The Huntsman and Hounds. The section lunch was held at the Hare and Hounds Leavenheath, our chairmans local, so no complaints!

Following a breakfast meeting earlier in the year to JD Classics, I discovered that John Surtees was to be coming and as a result, nine of the section attended to listen to the man himself. He was in good form and he had one of his MV championship winning bikes with him.  JD Classics is well worth a visit, because as well as some stunning cars they have a large number of desirable bikes on show.

We had a good turnout for the November club night with four bikes turning up including a 350 Benelli 4.I know it’s not AMC but a lovely rare machine. We are off for a daytime run on November the 14th and the club lunch is on 17th at the New Times Tiptree. Keep up to date by watching the website, and getting you e mail address to John.
